Earlier in the weekend, there were some reports that Ohio State Buckeyes linebacker Ryan Shazier was preparing to enter the 2014 NFL Draft and forgo his final year of eligibility. It seemed like the move was set in stone, but now we have a confirmation.
Shazier officially declared for the NFL Draft and released a statement on his decision.
“Playing in the NFL is something that I have been dreaming about since my days in pee-wee football,” said Shazier in a statement. I just feel that now is the perfect time for me. I feel like my three years at Ohio State were about great relationships with coaches, my teammates and Buckeye Nation,” Shazier said. “Playing here was an amazing experience.”
Shazier’s Ohio State teammate, quarterback Braxton Miller, will be returning to school.
With the athleticism and nose for the ball that Shazier brings to the linebacker position, there are a number of teams that will likely be lining up for his service’s when the 2014 NFL Draft rolls around.
While he is a lock for Day 2, there is a good chance that he could hear his name called within the first 32 picks.
