During Sunday’s Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl, four-star linebacker Jimmie Swain announced his commitment to play for the Oregon Ducks.
According to the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Swain, who was originally slated to go to TCU before changing his mind last month, Texas A&M, Michigan State, and Arkansas were also in the running.
Swain, who actually made his commitment weeks ago but elected not to publicly announce it until Sunday, spoke with Justin Hopkins of 247Sports about the decision:
The coaches were all so personable and my mom loved it. They spoke to her the right away and I could tell she wanted me to go to Oregon. It was my choice but it was nice when she was on board with it too. I had the entire defensive staff at my house when I committed.
While Swain said he’s disappointed he wont be able to play for former defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti, he’s encouraged by the amount of experience the assistants for the Ducks have.
Swain is Oregon’s 17th verbal commitment in the 2014 class.
