AP Top 25 college basketball poll, UConn and North Carolina out

The AP Top 25 Poll has been released for week ten of men’s college basketball. The top five teams remain unchanged: Arizona Wildcats, Syracuse Orange, Ohio State Buckeyes, Wisconsin Badgers, and the Michigan State Spartans.

The North Carolina Tar Heels and the UConn Huskies dropped out of the Top 25. North Carolina lost to Wake Forest for its fourth loss of the season, and the Huskies lost back-to-back games to Houston and SMU to open conference play in the American.

The Duke Blue Devils are now ranked sixteenth in the nation after losing to Notre Dame on the road.  It is their first loss to an unranked opponent.  Duke fell out of the top 10 in the AP Poll for the first time since December 2007.

Moving in to the Top 25 are No. 23 Illinois and No. 25 Kansas State.  Illinois is 13-2 with a notable win over No. 21 Missouri on December 21st.  Kansas State is 11-3 with a win over No. 11 Oklahoma State on January 4th.

With conference play heating up, expect more changes to the AP Top 25.  The Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12, ACC, and American Conference teams will continue to beat up on each other.
