According to Greg Johns, beat writer for the Seattle Mariners (@GregJohnsMLB), the M’s have brought back catcher Humberto Quintero on a minor league contract with an invite to Spring Training.
The 34-year-old catcher was brought on board from the Phillies last August while star prospect Mike Zunino was recovering from injury. He split time with Henry Blanco behind the plate and was granted Free Agency at the end of October.
With only inexperienced catchers Zunino and Jesus Sucre on the 40-man roster, Quintero provides veteran depth. Over 46 games between Philadelphia and Seattle, Quintero posted a .237/.275/.366 slash line with 4 HR and 13 RBI.
