Miami Dolphins may retain Jeff Ireland

Over the past few days, we have heard some rumblings that the Miami Dolphins could consider parting ways with offensive coordinator Mike Sherman and general manager Jeff Ireland but now it looks like things could be changing.

Much to the dismay of the Dolphins fan base, it appears that owner Stephen Ross may decide to spare Ireland of his job.

From Mike Silver of NFL.com:

With the lack of success that Miami has found under Ireland, it would be easy to find a reason to fire him and start over. Unfortunately, Ross may be too kind for his own good.

If the Dolphins want to get over the hump, they are going to need to start from the top. They won’t be able to do that with Ireland running the show, however.

We will have to see if Ross has a change of heart and ultimately decides to give Ireland the boot, but right now the fans in the “Fire Jeff Ireland” camp don’t look like they will be getting their wish.

Like I have been saying all along it is not Ireland’s fault, Ireland doesn’t know what he is doing. It’s Ross’s fault for keeping him.

“If the Dolphins want to get over the hump, they are going to need to start from the top. They won’t be able to do that with Ireland running the show.” Nice slant. Both Ireland & Philbin should keep their job, at least for one more year. If you fire one, you need to fire both. That being said, the team has talent and it has cap money. To me that is a sign of a decent GM. If we get rid of Sherman & maybe Coyle I think we would be much better off…

Any kind of source basing for the “I am hearing” gist of this “report”?

As a Bills fan, I say keep them! lol. With these guys you are losers and welcome to be losing more against the Bills and missing the play offs repeatedly. Keeping them keeps your team badly provided.Sorry Dolphin fans, You are going thru the same confusing, worthless times we have for 14 years, your welcome to take the Crown from us. lol. GO BILLS!!

Honestly the problem hasnt been ireland at all. This team has boat loads of talent. Ireland has done his job very well as he fixed the cap mess this team once had and has loaded it with talent. The dolphins could have easily been at least a 10 win team if not more. The coaching has been horrible and is the biggest reason why this team failed. Its stupid that ireland is taking blame for the last 2 games collapse.

I can’t speak on Ireland because as a Bills fan watching my team beat the Dolphins twice this year, I can only speak on the Coaching and QB play. Your Coaching is terrible. They game manage badly, in game play selection is predictable, time mgmt is bad, there are more reasons, but I’m sure your aware of them too. The fiasco with Incognito was not handled well at all! Didn’t this not help the team? It looked like a spin was used that did not help team cohesion at all. Philbin and company waited too long to address it and never really did. I wonder how the team players truly felt, not the Public Relation BS, the real feelings!! All in all, the Coaching and the owner are the real reason for the blame! Tannehill was much improved from his 1st year, but he still had flaws in his game, but I do see him as a good QB11 He still gets sacked too much and with that comes rattled and confused play. I believe he will get better as experience will allow him to do just that! GO BILLS!!

I agree with everything you just said. I mean no offense to your bills at all but i felt that this year the dolphins had alot more talent on their roster and really should have at least split the series or swept them. The dolphins play calling was aweful and stagnant. Also i feel tannehill can be a very good qb in this league but he needs a solid coach to develop him. I feel both of our teams are almost over the hump and i wish the best of luck to you guys because bills fans are REAL fans. I wish i could say the same for fin fans.

I appreciate your comments, esp. from a rival fan! It’s often not the case between our fan bases, too bad, right? I hated the Dolphins for 10 years when we got beat down all 10 years. Historic games! Then when we finally started to beat your team, man, those were the days, right? It turned out we and only we owned Dan Marino. He just couldn’t beat us then! In the Dolphins undefeated season, we were the only team to lose to you that year by 3 points or less if memory serves. I expect both teams to renew that rivalry soon!! GO BILLS!!

Boat loads of talent? That is laughable right there!

Why is nobody listening to me? I’ve been screaming for years to fire Ireland. Ireland has picked a lot of duds over the past 6 years. A lot of money wasted on talent that didn’t pan out. Let’s just clean house and move on.

Because you and I are only lowly fans and our voices will never be heard! Welcome to the Professional world of MNFL Football. GO BILLS!!

Ireland is totally the problem. Why are there so many people on here saying he isn’t. If you need reasons, look at his lack of picking real talent in the draft the last 5 years. Last year he picks Michael Egnew over T.Y. Hilton? Yeah we all see how that’s panning out. Horrible in the draft! His draft choices alone should be enough to get him fired.
