The Minnesota Twins have reportedly yet to offer former pitcher Johan Santana a contract, unlike a handful of other teams, but a reunion between the two parties is a ‘very real possibility’ – this according to the New York Daily News:
The Minnesota Twins remain a real possibility for former Mets ace Johan Santana, according to major league sources. Santana began his major league career with the Twins, who traded him to New York prior to the 2008 season.
The Twins have completely revamped their starting pitching rotation this offseason and have been rumored to be interested in Santana, who has been on the receiving end of multiple minor league contract offers.
The oft-injured Santana has struggled to remain on the field for his entire career (especially as of late), but he’s always been productive when healthy.
For a minor league contract offer, there’s little reason not to take a chance on Santana though relying on him to remain off the disabled list for extended periods probably isn’t the best decision.
Santana is expected to announce his new team in the near future.
