An article in the Providence Journal by Tim Britton (@TimBritton), states that the 2013 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox have entered into a strategic partnership arrangement with the Nexen Heroes of the Korean Baseball Organization.

According to both Britton and Joon Lee (@iamjoonlee) of SB Nation, Boston would share farm system strategies with Nexen, while the Heroes would impart additional knowledge and scouting of the Korean Baseball Organization teams. Nexen would also share certain training regimens of its baseball players with Boston.

As international scouting, particularly in Asia, gains even more traction in Major League Baseball, Boston seems to be moving to stake its claim in the Korean system, much how other teams have gained a foothold in Latin America.

Joon Lee says, “It’ll be interesting to see where this partnership brings [the] Red Sox and how their involvement in KBO players changes.”

The partnership is the first of its kind between Boston and an Asian baseball league.
