Playing for a small market team has its advantages and its disadvantages.
Major disadvantage? People forget you’re alive, despite putting up all-world numbers.
That’s the case for Sacramento Kings big man DeMarcus Cousins who has been destroying fellow NBA centers on a nightly basis, averaging 23 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists per game.
Those are All-Star numbers, even according to Shaquille O’Neal who suggested Boogie Cousins needs to be representing the Western Conference at the 2014 NBA All-Star Game:
Big cousins deserve to be on the all star team. What other center is putting up numbers.
Shaq’s right – those are extremely impressive numbers for anybody, let alone a 23-year-old talent.
Of course, that’s not to say O’Neal doesn’t have a horse in the game considering he’s now part owner of the franchise he once haunted and has been mentoring Cousins. But it’s still difficult to disagree with the notion as outside of Dwight Howard, there hasn’t been a Western Conference center better than the former Kentucky Wildcat.
He’ll need a little help from the Western Conference coaching staff however as Cousins ranked 12th in frontcourt player voting in the most recent All-Star numbers release.
