Tiger Woods announced on Monday that he’ll begin his 2014 campaign in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. The tournament begins on January 23.
While Woods didn’t reveal his (not exactly surprising) decision until now, he hinted at his desire to play in the Farmers Insurance Open in an interview he did after the Northwestern Mutual World Challenge last month:
Well, I’ve done well at Torrey Pines. I’ve done pretty good. That’s my first tournament back. I’ve come off of surgeries, you know, whatever it may be. I’ve had my share of off-seasons, and I can tell you one thing, I’m looking forward to this one (Reuters).
Woods saying he’s “done well” at Torrey Pines is quite the understatement. He’s dominated the Buick Invitational at the course, winning the event in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2008. He also captured the 2008 U.S. Open when it was held at the course, beating Rocco Mediate in a thrilling playoff. To top it off, Woods won the 2013 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, too.
I guess I’d say Woods excelling at Torrey Pines is just par for the course. (I’ll show myself out.)
