Iowa coach Fran McCaffery receives one game suspension from Big Ten

According to Andy Katz of ESPN, the Big Ten issued Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery a one game suspension and a $10,000 institutional fine for his ejection during the Iowa-Wisconsin game on Sunday.

McCaffery was ejected from the game after being issued a double technical.  At the time, Iowa was up 41-39 with 11:51 to go.  After Ben Brust of Wisconsin hit the four technical free throws, Wisconsin led Iowa 43-41.  No. 22 Iowa lost to No. 4 Wisconsin 75-71.

Getting ejected and losing the game is probably punishment enough.  However, the Big Ten made the right call punishing McCaffery because his behavior should not be tolerated.

I hope McCaffery is disappointed with his behavior.  He made the game about himself, instead of the players and the schools involved.

Here is McCaffery’s outburst during the Iowa-Wisconsin game.
