From starting on Christmas Day to just a few weeks later getting the pink slip, such is life for Shawne Williams.
According to Yahoo Sports, the Los Angeles Lakers waived the forward on Tuesday morning:
The Lakers have waived Shawne Williams, league source tells Yahoo Sports.
January 7th is always an important day for NBA rosters as it’s the day non-guaranteed contracts become fully guaranteed for the remainder of the season, so Williams will certainly not be the lone player to find himself on the outside looking in today.
A first round draft pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, Williams had been out of the league since the ’11-12 season though seemingly found a role on the Lakers as a reserve, appearing in 32 games for the club.
But with the Lakers getting somewhat healthy and dealing with a financial crunch, the team felt it was best to part ways with the 27-year-old veteran. They also have apparent interested in free agents like Hedo Turkoglu, which could have also prompted such a move.
It’s possible Williams will latch on to another team given his relatively solid play with Los Angeles this season.
