The second installment of the reboot prequel series of Planet of the Apes movies doesn’t come out until this summer but already 20th Century Fox is ready to roll on another one. According to The Hollywood Reporter, not only is a third Planet of the Apes movie already in the works, a director has already been found for the project.
Matt Reeves, who is helping the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, has been selected yet again by the studio to head up production on the third film in the series.
20th Century Fox has closed a deal with Matt Reeves to return to the director’s chair for a third installment of the Planet of the Apes franchise.
There as some hope over in Star Trek land that Reeves would follow in the footsteps of childhood friend J.J. Abrams and direct Star Trek 3. But not ply has he fallen out of the running, his involvement with Planet of the Apes 3 now completely and officially eliminates him from contention.
Planet of the Apes 3 doesn’t yet have a release date, although a projection would be a summer 2016 date. Meanwhile, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will hit theaters on July 11, 2014.
