SEC commissioner Mike Slive after title game: 'What we have done is unprecedented'

After last night’s thrilling national title game, won 34-31 by the Florida State Seminoles, SEC commissioner Mike Slive reflected on his conference’s unparalleled run of dominance.

Although Slive said he was disappointed that Florida State ended up winning, he also said Auburn’s loss doesn’t detract from the SEC’s remarkable title streak:

There is disappointment, no doubt. We congratulate Florida State and the ACC. They have a great team. But right now I can’t help but think about the enduring pride we have in what our conference has accomplished. What we have done is unprecedented. And no one will ever equal it (CBS Sports).

Slive continued:

The BCS championship is a big game, obviously. But every week in our conference is such a struggle. To win a championship you have to be at your best every week and then find ways to win when you don’t play your best. Once our teams get to this game, they know they can pretty much handle anything.

The SEC finished the BCS era — holy cow, it’s finally over — with an amazing 9-1 record in championship games.
