Former Real Madrid midfielder and current Arsenal star Mesut Ozil was named Germany’s national Player of the Year. The German Football Federation conducted a poll with fans and Ozil was chosen for the third year in a row.

“This award makes me proud and happy,” Ozil told dfb.de. ”Above all, because (the vote) was carried out by the fans.”

Ozil finished with more than 30 percent of the votes and won the award over Bayern Munich stars Phillip Lahm and Thomas Muller.

Ozil is adjusting to play in the English Premier League, which doesn’t have a winter break.

“Of course it is out of the ordinary because I have always had a winter break in previous years. In the Premier League, you play every few days – you don’t get a week to relax,” Ozil told Arsenal’s official website. “I am very pleased that I am in this league because you go from game to game very quickly.
