Athlon Sports: Top 10 college basketball arenas

Athlon Sports asked 12 college basketball experts to name their top 10 college basketball arenas.  Using a points system, Athlon created a top 10 list.

Athlon Sports top 10 college basketball arenas:

1. Allen Fieldhouse – Kansas

2. Cameron Indoor – Duke

3. Hinkle Fieldhouse – Butler

4. Rupp Arena – Kentucky

5. Assembly Hall – Indiana

6. Breslin Center – Michigan State

7. The Palestra – Penn/Philadelphia Big 5

8. Madison Square Garden – St. John’s

9. The Pit – New Mexico

10. Gallagher-Iba Arena – Oklahoma State

It is difficult to argue with the final list.  However, when you look at the individual lists of the voters, one notices there is room for debate.  In my opinion, the debate comes down to watching an amazing game at one arena versus watching a good game at another arena.  For example, how can Jay Bilas say Dayton’s arena is any better than Syracuse’s Carrier Dome?  The Carrier Dome seats 30,000 basketball fans, and Syracuse plays on a national stage.  Dayton is a great mid-major basketball program, but it is no Syracuse.
