'Big Hurt' becomes first primary DH in Hall

In their official news release, the Baseball Hall of Fame made it known that Frank Thomas would go into Cooperstown as a Designated Hitter.

Thomas is the first Hall of Famer to have played a majority of games at the DH position.

In his 19 seasons in Major League Baseball, Thomas alternated between first base and DH for his entire Chicago White Sox career before being used solely as a DH during his years with the Oakland Athletics and Toronto.

The election of Thomas as a DH should quell any questions about whether Designated Hitters, such as Edgar Martinez, should be elected into the Hall of Fame.
