Texas Longhorns: Charlie Strong responds to comments made by booster Red McCombs (Video)

The honeymoon period for new Texas Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong came to an abrupt end on Tuesday with come comments made by long-time Texas booster, and former Minnesota Vikings owner–Red McCombs.

Combs appeared on ESPN Radio in San Antonio and he really didn’t have many kind words to say about the hire. Among the sentiments, McCombs called the hire a kick in the face as well as pointing out that he believes Strong would make a fine coordinator or position coach, but that’s about it.

We all knew–Strong included–that this was not going to be an easy transition to make.

On Wednesday, Strong appeared on the Dan Patrick Show where he was asked about the comments thrown in his direction by someone who is now one of his own.

As always, the former Louisville coach downplayed it fairly well, while at the same time noting that this is something that will happen in a place like Austin.

Like Strong said in that interview, if you win games, all of this nonsense goes away.
