While the Wyoming Cowboys are working to prepare for next season, they will need to figure out what quarterback will be leading the offense. Not only did Wyoming lose quarterback Brett Smith to the NFL Draft, but another quarterback will be leaving town, too.
In a bit of a surprising move, Jason Thompson, who was supposed to be entering spring ball as the team’s starting quarterback, has decided to transfer to Utah.
Wyoming’s athletic director confirmed that Thompson asked to be released from his scholarship.
Thompson will be forced to sit out the 2014 season under NCAA transfer rules, but he will have two years of eligibility remaining when he is able to take the field in 2015.
Former Wyoming head coach Dave Christensen is the Utes new offensive coordinator.
