The No. 24 Memphis Tigers defeated the No. 12 Louisville Cardinals 73-67 at KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky. The Tigers improved to 11-3 (2-1 conference), and the Cardinals fell to 13-3 (2-1).
Memphis used a balanced scoring attack to outlast the Cardinals in a closely contested game. Each starter for the Tigers scored in double digits, and the Tigers shot 50.9% from the field to Louisville’s 39.1%.
Louisville was up 64-59 after a Montrezl Harrell dunk with 3:50 to go. The Tigers then tied the Cardinals at 64 after a dunk, a steal, another dunk and a made and-one shot. The momentum swung in the Tigers’ favor, and they closed out the Cardinals hitting five of six free throws over the final 2:26.
Memphis top performers: Shaq Goodwin scored 15 points along with eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Joe Jackson netted 15 points, six assists, and two steals. Geron Johnson added 13 points and 11 boards. Chris Crawford scored 12 points, and Austin Nichols finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Louisville top performers: Luke Hancock scored a game-high 20 points along with five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Russ Smith scored 19 points, collected five rebounds, dropped three dimes, and stole the ball four times. Montrezl Harrell finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
