Right after the news broke that Charlie Strong would be the next head coach at the University of Texas, people immediately wondered how long it would take for someone to take a shot at the hiring, thus ending the honeymoon.
Texas booster Red McCombs got a nice jump on that the other day when he went on ESPN Radio in San Antonio and called the hire a “kick in the face” and made reference to the notion that he believes Strong would make a great position coach or assistant, but is not suited to head up a program like Texas.
Thursday, Strong appeared on, of all shows, the Paul Finebaum Show where he not only addressed the comments, bu revealed that he has spoken to McCombs and they had, what he called, a “great conversation.”
Charlie Strong just told us he spoke to Red McCombs a few hours ago and had a ‘great conversation’.

The funny thing is, there’s probably a lot of ways that we can interpret this, but hopefully this will end the matter for now so Strong can focus on more important business.
Like, you know, heading up the most prominent program in the nation, for instance.
