The Notre Dame athletic program seems set to change their sports programs up just a little bit more than their affiliation with the ACC as according to a report from SI.com, the school may be making a switch in their athletic sponsor from Adidas to Under Armour.
In the report, Under Armour officials were on the campus in South Bend on Thursday, and a good number of Fighting Irish athletes took to social media to express their pleasure with the impending deal.
Notre Dame’s current deal with Adidas expires at the end of the year, and losing probably the most lucrative college contract in the country is a huge blow to the company, while at the same time being a gigantic coup for Under Armour.
A while back, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick sort of foreshadowed a possible change, as he praised Adidas, but also said that they would explore options.
“We have been very happy with adidas,” Swarbrick told ESPN.com’s Matt Fortuna at the time. “But it is just good business to use the expiration of a contract to review all options.”
Adidas has been the primary outfitter of Notre Dame athletics since 1997.
