As Florida Gators head coach Will Muschamp tried to right all the wrongs that happened in 2013, he got a little help on Thursday as three-star all-purpose threat Brandon Powell flipped his commitment to Gainesville from the Miami Hurricanes, according to 247 Sports.
Powell was first committed to Butch Jones and the Tennessee Volunteers before pledging his allegiance to the ‘Canes.
He was supposed to enroll early on the Miami campus, but errors in paperwork delayed that from happening, and he ultimately decided to change his mind and will now head off to play for Muschamp and the Gators.
A running back and defensive back from Deerfield Beach, Fla., Powell rushed for 1,339 yards and 20 touchdowns in his senior season of high school and grabbed himself three interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.
This turn of events marks the 12th commitment for the Gators for 2014, and that doesn’t include the seven that have already enrolled in classes for the Gators.
Powell could provide some of the big-play ability to the Gators offense that they’ve been sorely lacking as of late, especially this past season.
