Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo said Friday he expected to return sometime before the NBA’s All-Star break.
That break doesn’t come until February 14th though, so when exactly Rondo was expecting to return was unknown. Until now.
According to Yahoo Sports’ Marc J. Spears, Rondo is planning to return in one week – January 17th – as the Boston Celtics host the Los Angeles Lakers:
Rajon Rondo is targeting the Boston Celtics’ Jan. 17 home game against the Los Angeles Lakers for his possible season debut, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Rondo, who had season-ending surgery to repair a torn right anterior cruciate ligament nearly a year ago, didn’t specify a date for his return, but said his knee – and confidence – are strong. His only concern is regaining his conditioning.
That’s a relatively large swing from this morning when Rondo gave a month time frame as to his potential return date, not a week.
Of course, there’s still room for a possible setback or the Celtics delaying a return but as of now, it appears Rondo will be back in the very near future.
