With James Franklin leaving the Vanderbilt Commodores to accept the head coaching job at Penn State, Vanderbilt will now begin conducting their own search to find a replacement to fill their head coaching vacancy.

In a recent USA Today article, it was speculated that highly sought after Alabama Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kirby Smart could be the most likely candidate for the Commodores opening.

Smart is familiar with the SEC and is a man who has been searching for his shot, but it may not be easy to convince him to leave behind the opportunity to become the man who replaces Nick Saban leading the Crimson Tide.

We will learn more about the Vanderbilt candidates in the coming days, but you should fully expect the team to give Smart a call.

If he does, he does, but i can’t see him leaving Bama to go to an SEC school. Especially not Vanderbilt. Saban won’t coach forever. Roll Tide!
