The Oregon Ducks are expected to promote linebackers coach Don Pellum to defensive coordinator to take over for the retired Nick Aliotti, according to Football Scoop.

“Pellum knows that defense and the players as well as anyone. At Oregon it’s all about the fit and Pellum is certainly loved by the players and staff. “

Much like last year when Chip Kelly left Oregon to take the head coaching job with the Philadelphia Eagles, Oregon promoted from within when the hired Mark Helfrich. And when Kelly got the job he was promoted form within when Mike Belotti took over as athletic director.

Promoting from within is what Oregon does and here they are rewarding the former Ducks’ linebacker and longtime assistant after 23 years on the staff at Oregon and serving as the Duck’s recruiting coordinator.
