Ruling on Alex Rodriguez suspension expected in the next few days

An important step of the Alex Rodriguez saga might be coming this week. The Associated Press reports that the arbitrator in the case should hand down his decision on the suspension in the next few days, perhaps this weekend.

Ronald Blum reports the following:

Alex Rodriguez is likely to find out in the next few days whether his drug suspension will be overturned.

People familiar with the case told The Associated Press on Friday that arbitrator Fredric Horowitz could issue his decision this weekend. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because no statements were authorized.”

The timing is made a bit more interesting by the fact that Wallace Matthews of ESPNNewYork reported just a few days earlier that A-Rod might be willing to accept a reduced suspension.

This past August commissioner Bud Selig suspended Rodriguez 211 games in a move that was unprecedented in more ways than one. The Players Association proceeded to file a grievance, which is when an independent arbitrator (Horowitz) was brought in for the case.

No matter which outcome, one side (either MLB or A-Rod’s camp) is going to be good and mad and things will likely get uglier before they are resolved.
