Earlier on Saturday morning, a rumor began to circulate that the funk-rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers would be joining Bruno Mars at the Super Bowl this year inside MetLife Stadium. There was no confirmation with the report earlier, but Bruno Mars himself interrupted the FOX Pregame show on Saturday afternoon to confirm the band was appearing.
Mars, sitting in Curt Menefee’s chair at the FOX NFL desk, stated he was excited to e performing at the halftime show but didn’t want things to only go as far as his performance. As the main draw of the halftime show, Mars said he wanted to spice things up and even toss in a few surprises.
The first of which was the confirmation that Red Hot Chili Peppers would be joining him for a halftime performance.
It’s a smart move not he part of the NFL to include the band in the show, as the appeal of Bruno Mars isn’t what you’d consider a traditional NFL appeal. Adding the Chili Peppers to the mix means a more eclectic mix of music and a higher likelihood of an expanded viewership for the show.
Bruno Mars and Red Hot Chili Peppers will perform at halftime of the Super Bowl this year on February 2, 2014.
