The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are continuing to build the staff for new head coach Lovie Smith. The team’s coaching staff is now up to 12 assistant coaches after moving swiftly last week.

The latest addition in Tampa Bay is Gill Byrd, who will be serving as the team’s cornerbacks coach.

Byrd and Smith are very familiar with each other from their time together with the Chicago Bears. Byrd was previously a quality control and safeties coach in Chicago, but now he will get to coach a group of players who will be playing a position he once did when making a name for himself as a player in the NFL.

In an interesting note, Byrd is also the father of Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd, who is set to be a free agent.

However, Tampa Bay is already loaded at safety so there is very little chance that Byrd will be joining his father with the Buccaneers.
