Golden Globes 2014: 12 Years a Slave wins Best Picture, Drama

Tonight, Hollywood honors both television and movies with the Golden Globes and the first major awards of 2014 are being handed out. It’s an interesting mix as it’s the only major award show of the year that honors both film and television in the same show and there was plenty to be proud of this past year.

When it came down to the biggest award of the night for movies, the Best Drama Film, the race really only had two horses running. While Captain Phillips, Philomena and Rush were outstanding films, the two leaders from the start were always 12 Years a Slave and Gravity.

Like the directors of the films squaring off in their own category, only one film could emerge with the Golden Globe.

Best Picture — Drama

12 Years A Slave — WINNER
Captain Phillips
Gravity
Philomena
Rush

This sort of helps us predict who can be considered a favorite for Best Picture at the Oscars, but as we saw at the Golden Globes, nothing can be predicted ahead of time in Hollywood.
