Panthers QB Cam Newton’s head snaps back on helmet-to-helmet hit (GIF)

The San Francisco 49ers are having their way with the Carolina Panthers in their NFC Divisional Round playoff game. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was rolling out when he was greeted by linebacker Dan Skuta.
It looks like Skuta’s helmet, though it could’ve been the top of his shoulder pad, goes right into Newton’s facemask. Newton’s head jerks back like New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees’ did when he was sacked by Ahmad Brooks earlier this season.
It is pretty scary to watch that happen in slow-mo. Newton looks like he almost loses the ball too, but he managed to hang on.
