MLB Rumors: Orioles didn't void Grant Balfour contract over elbow

The Baltimore Orioles and closer Grant Balfour struggled for over a week to find middle ground on a contract, but eventually after much haggling, the two sides came to an agreement.

All looked to be good. The Orioles had their new closer and an elite one at that.

But before the ink could dry on the paperwork, Balfour’s deal with the Orioles was voided as the team wasn’t happy with the physical report. It shocked many – including Balfour himself considering initial reports suggested Balfour, who has been relatively healthy in recent years had a problem with his elbow.

However, the Orioles suggested it wasn’t Balfour’s elbow causing the issue rather his knee and wrist:

Source: The red flags that came up about Grant Balfour’s physical state were about his wrist and knee, and not about his shoulder.

Elbow, knee, wrist – whatever the cause, it’s been pretty detrimental to Balfour who is still without a contract.

If it was the knee & wrist instead of the shoulder, this is a pretty interesting twist. I wonder what Balfour must be thinking reading this. He’s either thinking “Someone from the club is paying someone to say that and it’s totally false!” or “Oh crap I have to rescind my grievance before I totally humiliate myself!”
