For months (and possibly even longer), the New York Yankees have had their eyes on San Diego Padres third baseman, Chase Headley.

New York and San Diego have exchanged trade proposals over that course of time, but the Friars simply wouldn’t budge on their demands and the two sides could never find a middle ground. Now the Yankees have had enough according to Andy Martino and plan to fill their third base hole internally rather than trading for Headley or anybody else.

Backing up #Yankees public assertions of going in-house at 3B, a source says they haven’t called abt Headley in a while. Used to ask often.

San Diego has been asking for a hefty return in regards to Headley, a price teams simply aren’t willing to pay.

A free agent at season end, the Padres may change their tune come July’s trade deadline but for now, it appears the third baseman is staying in Southern California and the Yankees have finally given up the ghost.

Headley finished up the 2013 campaign with a .250 average, 13 home runs and 50 RBI in 141 games.

It’s not that the Yankees aren’t interested – they’d snap him up if the Padres were willing to give him away. They just don’t have the players the Padres want, so why keep talking?
