Jose Mourinho has said that he is to stay at Chelsea for the long term. Speaking to the Evening Standard, the Chelsea manager discussed his desire to make west London his home: “I’m here to stay. I belong to Chelsea, Chelsea belong to me. I gave a lot to Chelsea in the past but they also gave a lot to me. This is a different professional relationship.”
Having enjoyed considerable success during his first spell at the club from 2004 to 2007, the Portuguese has been an idol for Chelsea fans, and his return to Stamford Bridge in the summer has seen Mourinho’s name regularly sung by fans at games.
“I’m not here thinking about my next move because I don’t want to have a next move,” he said. “I will have a next move if and when Chelsea decides it’s time for that. I’m not chasing new experiences, trying to find where I like it more, where I can make new things for my career — no. It’s a completely different perspective.”
While the relationship between Mourinho and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has been the cause of much speculation in the past it would appear that both are committed to Chelsea in the long term: news which will delight fans of the club, and concern fans of their title rivals.
