NBA Rumors: Luol Deng fine with Cavaliers wanting to sign LeBron James

It’s been rumored the Cleveland Cavaliers will attempt to sign LeBron James when/if he hits free agency again – a notion that is fine with the recently acquired Luol Deng.

Deng, who was traded by the Chicago Bulls to the Cavaliers last week told Yahoo Sports he wouldn’t mind if the Cavaliers attempted to court James, almost suggesting it would be silly if they didn’t.

“He’s a great player, why wouldn’t you look at him?” Deng told Yahoo Sports. “If he wants to come back home, that’s great for him and great for this organization. He’s a great player. Why not?

“I’m all right with that. I’m here to do what I can do and be Luol Deng. I don’t really worry about it. I don’t have the mindset that I can control what everyone else thinks. I just do what I can do and try to be the best at what I do.”

The Cavaliers have until June 30th to extend Deng – who would then become a free agent if no deal was agreed upon.

Of course, if the Cavaliers attempted to get really creative, they could likely sign both Deng and James though that would require James to opt-out this offseason and Deng to obviously re-sign.
