When Avatar first hit theaters, it was a visual phenomenon that ushered in the true era of 3D cinema. A lot of people blast the movie for relying too much on the visual aspect and less on the story, but that didn’t stop the film from grossing well over $1 billion.
That massive box office mark has a lot of studio executives hungry for more Avatar and that’s exactly what we’re getting, but the real question was who from the original films would be returning?
According to Variety, both Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana are expected to return for the Avatar sequels that James Cameron is throwing together over the next few years.
The films are set to be shot over the course of the next few years and will be working on an back-to-back-to-back schedule. The three films were announced in 2013 and will build on the story we saw develop in the original film. Make all the jokes you want about there being no story to build on, but the world will be getting three more Avatar films in the near future, we can at least be thankful the two main original stars will be returning to reprise their roles.
