The NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year has been named and it is San Diego Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen.  Allen was a third round pick in this past year’s NFL Draft, 76th overall, with teams so focused on what was regarded as a slow recovery from a PCL injury he suffered.  The result was that teams overlooked the immense amount of talent the former Cal Golden Bear displayed throughout his collegiate career.

Allen played in 15 games, catching 71 passes for 1,046 yards and 8 touchdowns with 54 of those catches going for first downs.  He quickly became the favorite target of Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers and was a big part of the revival of the Chargers and their playoff berth that ended in the divisional round.  In the two playoff games, Allen caught 8 passes on 12 targets for 163 yards and two touchdowns.

As long as Allen stays healthy, he and Rivers can be one of the most dynamic passing combinations in the NFL for the next several years and allow that team to keep getting better and better.
