Former Florida Gators quarterback Tyler Murphy announced in December he would be transferring after graduating and on Tuesday he announced he will be playing for the Boston College Eagles in 2014.
Murphy had been a reserve his first three years in Gainesville before being pressed into starting duty after Jeff Driskel was injured in the Gator’s win over Tennessee.
He will be eligible to play immediately because he has already graduated and will compete for the starting job for Steve Addazio’s club that went 7-6 in his first year in 2013. Addazio recruited Murphy out of high school when he was on Urban Meyer’s staff.
Murphy went 2-4 while starting six games for Florida and completed 112-of-185 passes for 1,216 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions before hurting his shoulder vs. Vanderbilt. He is the seventh player to transfer out of Florida.
Skyler Mornhinweg took over for the 4-8 Gators after Murphy was lost for the rest of the year. Florida will enter 2014 with a wide-open quarterback competition under first-year offensive coordinator Kurt Roper.
