Nothing says narcissist like somebody requesting that every Major League Baseball team throw him a party, right?

That’s apparently the wish of MLB commissioner Bug Selig who according to ESPN wants his own ‘farewell tour’, much like the one former New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera recently went through.

In fact, Selig said, he would like to spend his last year as commissioner on a Mariano Rivera-type tour of all 30 major league parks, speaking not with baseball dignitaries but with fans and people who work in his sport behind the scenes.

“I want to talk to season-ticket holders and fans,” he said. “I’ve got a lot of people to thank.”

See – the difference here is Rivera was given such by teams and fans because of his contributions to the game. He didn’t ask for it – he earned it. And Selig, well, he’s not exactly what you’d call a fan favorite by any stretch of the imagination.

I personally don’t have a problem with Bud Selig, but this isn’t really the type of thing you ask for, even if it was done in a bit of a round-about way. And who’s stopping the guy from thanking everybody after he’s done being the commissioner?
