When in shape, San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval is a force to be reckoned with. Even when Sandoval isn’t in the most prime condition, he’s still a very good player but as evidenced in prior seasons, Sandoval can put up MVP numbers when he’s trim and maintaining his health.
And that’s pretty good news for the Giants as according to Rafael Rojas, the Panda has lost 42lb’s this offseason:
The Biggest Loser,
#SFGiants edition: Pablo Sandoval has said he’s dropped 42 pounds this winter due to offseason training
Sandoval, after an extremely impressive 2009 season fell off the wagon in 2010 which ended up forcing the Giants to platoon him during their World Series run. A re-energized Sandoval worked off the extra pounds that haunted him during the season and returned to form in 2011 – though sadly dealt with a rash of freak injuries, but put up elite numbers when he was on the field.
Unfortunately, 2012 was again a ‘down’ year for Sandoval (by his standards) and much of it was attributed to weight gain. Now 42 pounds lighter, Sandoval is hoping to see a return to glory.
