NFL Draft 2014: Connor Shaw has ‘chance to be a solid backup’ in NFL

South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback Connor Shaw is coming off of an impressive performance in the Capital One Bowl over the Wisconsin Badgers, but now he must turn his attention to preparing for the 2014 NFL Draft.

Shaw was the MVP of the game, but he doesn’t have much hype behind him as he prepares for the next level.

That could all change soon.

While Shaw is not expected to be a franchise quarterback in the NFL, there are a few who believe he has the talent to emerge as a solid back up quarterback in the league, which is more than most prospects could hope for.

Kevin Weidl of ESPN shared his analysis of Shaw heading in to draft season:

Shaw will likely be a late-round pick or undrafted free agent, but he will almost certainly get an invitation to someone’s training camp. When that opportunity comes, he will have the chance to prove he is more than capable of holding his own at the next level and providing a team with quality depth at the position.

Josh, I feel like Connor Shaw will eventually be a starter under center. He is the most underrated QB in the nation. Let’s see what he does at the combine. You may be surprised at what may come of it.

This sounds crazy to me. I think he will end up a starter wherever he goes. Then again I only watched him twice this season — against Arkansas and Wisconsin, he dismantled them both. Certainly seems to have an NFL arm.
