Snowboarding legend Shaun White has bought a majority stake in Air & Style, a snowboarding and music festival series founded in Austria. American White won the series in 2003 and 2004, and reached an agreement with Andrew Hourmont, who founded Air & Style in 1993 in Innsbruck and expanded it to Munich and Beijing.
With White’s backing the series, which combines snowboarding with live music events, will expand into the US this year, adding to events already scheduled across Europe and China. White had hosted the Beijing event between 2010 and 2012 in partnership with sponsors Oakley.
It is understood that Hourmont will remain a minority shareholder. In a statement, Hourmont said:
“After 20 years of Air & Style I am very happy to make the next big step together with my friend Shaun. We share a common vision of bringing snowboarding, music and lifestyle to the world´s youth. I could not imagine a better partner for growing Air & Style and the sport in total.”
White is currently competing for a place at next month’s Winter Olympic games in Sochi, and is taking part in a US Olympic team selection event in Colorado. He will be aiming for his third consecutive Olympic gold medal in the halfpipe, as well as competing in the debut of the snowboard slopestyle event at the games.
