We all know that people texting, tweeting, or worse; answering their phone during a movie can be incredibly annoying. However, a situation in Florida got so out of hand that one woman ended up injured, and a man lost his life.
It all happened at around 1:30 p.m. yesterday at the Cobb Grove 16 Theater in Wesley Chapel, Florida.
A man named Chad Oulson and his wife Nicole, who normally worked alternating schedules, realized that the two of them actually had a day off together. So, they did what any couple with a young child and work alternating scheduled would do; they decided to go on an early afternoon date.
The couple decided that they would go have lunch together and go see a movie. They chose to go to a matinee so that both of them could go pick their daughter up from daycare in the afternoon.
They decided to go see a showing of the new film Lone Survivor starring Mark Wahlberg as Marcus Luttrell, a man who was the lone survivor of his SEAL team who was put into an impossible situation while on a mission in Afghanistan that was filled with bloodshed and loss, ending with the survival of one man, Luttrell, to tell the harrowing story of his teammates who never made it home.
Unfortunately, the bloodshed and violence would become all too real for Chad and Nicole.
According to reports, Oulson was texting his daughter during the movie previews. An argument broke out between Oulson and a man named Curtis Reeves, who was also at the theater with his wife. During the altercation, Reeves supposedly left to locate an usher who could rectify the situation. However, when Reeves returned, the situation escalated to a whole new level.
Apparently, when Reeves returned, the argument commenced. Somewhere in all the commotion, popcorn went flying, and then BANG! Reeves opened fire on Oulson.
In an attempt to stop the bullet from hitting her husband, Nicole leapt forward putting her hand in front of her husband’s chest. Unfortunately, the bullet went right through her hand and into her husband’s chest. Chad would not survive.
To make matters even worse, the shooter, Curtis Reeves, Jr., is a 71 year-old retired Tampa Police Officer.
Reeves is due in court this morning to face charges in the shooting.
I wholeheartedly agree that texting and tweeting during a movie is incredibly annoying; however, it is absolutely nothing worth spending the rest of your life in jail over, or worse, losing your life over something so petty. Now, Nicole, who was released from the hospital after being treated for her wounds, will have to explain to their 3 year-old daughter that her Daddy won’t be coming home ever again.
