It’s not everyday that a junior running back coming off of a season where he gained less than 500 yards, declares for the NFL Draft, but that’s where we are with California running back Brendan Bigelow.
Confirmed by @CalFootball that Jr RB Brendan Bigelow intends to declare for the NFL draft. That makes 5 Cal jrs making leap off 1-11 squad.

As noted by Jeff Faraudo above, it has been a mass exodus from the struggling Cal program, as Sonny Dykes’ team just finished a 1-11 season and they are now hemorrhaging talent left and right. Bigelow had a decent junior season, rushing for 421 yards on 105 carries (4.0 per carry) with 2 touchdowns, but he largely split time in the backfield throughout the season and it’s a bit of a shock to see him leave.
There is a real possibility that Bigelow could go undrafted in 2014, but because of his solid measurables, he could be a late-round pick or possibly latch on with a team in free agency. As for Cal, they are stuck from a talent standpoint for next season, and in a situation where everyone was already expected a massive rebuilding project, the task just became much more difficult.
