Celtics preparing for return of Rajon Rondo

The return of Rajon Rondo is getting closer, with reports putting the point guard’s return date as this Friday (and thus saving the ‘r’ keys of headline writers keyboards).

Coach Brad Stevens refused to be drawn on whether or not Rondo would be returning, but did admit that later today the team will put their best player through some activities to test his fitness, per ESPN Boston.

“We’ve got a day planned, some pretty strenuous activity planned [Wednesday] for him, and then kinda go from there. But I don’t think it’s fair to put a day on it until he goes through everything he needs to go through. But, obviously, hey, we’re nearing that time. No question.”

Rondo has helped to fuel the rumours of a Friday return with this tweet:

The time in the tweet works out at just over 338 days, which would be the exact time between his ACL surgery on February 13 2013 and the potential return date of January 17 2014 – Friday.

“I thought it was how many people go back for Thanksgiving seconds, but he told me I was wrong, so I’m still trying to figure out what it means,”

Stevens said jokingly.
