NHL Trade Rumors: Senators, Kings interested in acquiring Matt Moulson from Sabres

The NHL trade deadline is fast approaching and teams have until March 5th to make deals. Trades can be made from now up until February 7th, as that is when the NHL freezes all trade activity for the duration of the Winter Olympics. But in the meantime, one name that many are expecting to hear more and more about as both deadlines near, is Buffalo Sabres veteran Matt Moulson.

According to both the Ottawa Sun as well as Kings beat writer John Hoven, the Ottawa Senators and Los Angeles Kings are the two teams most likely to make offers to Buffalo for Moulson.

Out of the two, Los Angeles is the team most likely to land Moulson as they have the money to make it happen as well as a dire need for production out of their left wingers. Ottawa has started making it known they’d like to acquire veteran skaters, but the Sun reports Moulson’s contract and his unrestricted free agent status at the end of the season could scare them off.

Don’t expect the Sabres to just give Moulson away though, as the Ottawa Sun reports the asking price for Moulson will be considerable.

“the asking price for Moulson will be considerable.”
    As it should be.
I’d rather he went to the Kings, why trade an asset player to a division rival?

The Kings would never trade Toffoli for Moulson. For one thing, Toffoli has the same amount of goals, so how would that improve the Kings goal scoring?

If the Kings trade prospects, they will probably be either Linden Vey or Tanner Pearson. Keep in mind Moulson is a UFA, so he is a total gamble.

Buffalo has to play it smart, they know Moulson won’t resign so they need to get something back for him, but teams also realize they can wait to sign him in the offseason and not give anything up to get him, so there’s a balance that buffalo needs to do to make the deal right. Moulson back in LA would be great, he could be reunited with his step brother and hopefully turn up LA’s scoring struggles. Moulson to Buffalo for draft picks and some of our hot young prospects. and maybe one of our current 4th or 3rd line guys.

      Brother in law.

      Not stepbrother.

Tyler Toffoli seems like a solid return for Moulson. Although he doesn’t play the wing.

Toffoli play Right Wing. so, yes he plays the wing- haha

      • DC

He’s listed at center. I meant it as he’s meant to play center, but can play the wing if need be.

        • Luc

I know what you mean, but he is not a Center, his position is Right Wing. Toffoli plays Right wing for the Monarchs and the Kings.
