Just over a week ago, Take Two and 2K sports announced that the MLB 2K series would be ceasing operation, meaning there would be no baseball video games moving forward for the XBox One and the XBox 360 – also limiting options to just ‘MLB: The Show’ on Playstation 3 and Playstation 4.
The decline of MLB 2K had been well documented and it was simply a matter of time before the franchise folded, but little did we know the good news coming behind it.
According to MLB Advanced Media/PR, beloved Nintendo game ‘R.B.I. Baseball’ will be making it’s return – the first installment since 1995 when the game last appeared. The title will launch on a variety of platforms, according to Pasta Padre:
RBI Baseball 14 officially announced. Developed by MLB, published by Take Two. XB1/PS4/360/PS3/Mobile. Might have fantasy ties.
Key note in there – the game is being developed by Major League Baseball, so it should be interesting to see the type of things they implement in the game.
In addition, it’s not expected that ‘R.B.I. Baseball 14′ will be a simulation like ‘MLB: The Show’, but rather focus more on an arcade style gameplay.
Regardless, there are a lot of happy baseball/video game fans tonight brimming with nostalgia.
Currently, there is no release date announced though the game is expected to be ready prior to the start of the 2014 season.
