The Oklahoma City Thunder have struggled without Russell Westbrook. Their star point guard is out until after the All-Star Break after having knee surgery, and they have had to rely on Reggie Jackson and Derek Fisher. After suffering a tough loss to the Grizzlies on Tuesday night, it appears that they are going to look for some depth at the point guard position.
According to Jared Zwerling of Bleacher Report, the Thunder will sign Royal Ivey to a 10-day contract.
Ivey is a guy who can be an extra body in practice, but don’t expect him contribute a lot of minutes to the Thunder. He has averaged over five points in a season just once, and he has been a backup for his career. He spent last season in Philadelphia, and was with the Thunder for two seasons before that.
This move shows that despite some rumblings, the Thunder will probably hold Westbrook out until after the All-Star Break. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the 10-year veteran released after the 10 days are up. Ivey spent training camp and preseason with the Hawks before being released before the season started.
