San Diego Padres to hold public address announcer job contest

According to ABC 10 News, the San Diego Padres will hold a contest for the public address announcer job on January 25th at Petco Park.  The semifinalists will be interviewed, and the finalists will demonstrate their PA talent at Petco Park during the Padres FanFest on February 8th.  The fans will vote for their top three, and the Padres will have the ultimate say in March.

What a contest! The person who wins will be the new public address announcer during all home games in 2014.

The Padres did not have a good season in 2013 finishing T3 in the NL West alongside the San Francisco Giants at 76-86.  Health was a major issue as well as the need for what GM Josh Byrnes called “general upgrades.”

The “general upgrades” are mostly complete with the additions of reliever Joaquin Benoit and starter Josh Johnson.  The pitching will be strong in 2014, and may border on dominate.

It is difficult to say how healthy the Padres will come back.  Carlos Quentin, Cameron Maybin, and Yonder Alonso may all be key parts of the offense. However, they need to be playing everyday to help the Padres win games.

How good will the Padres be in 2014?
