With Chelsea in the process of wrapping up the signing of Nemanja Matic, it would appear that the Serbian will not be the final arrival at Stamford Bridge this January, with the club being linked with St Etienne defender Kurt Zouma.
Zouma’s agent, Alexandre Bonnefond, is quoted in Metro as saying:
Some big clubs are interested in Kurt. There are some talks with teams in Italy, France and especially England.
French newspaper L’Equipe have reported that Inter Milan and Monaco are also interested in signing the 19 year old centre back. Zouma is one of the highest rated talents in French football, even though he is currently most famous for receiving a 10 match ban for a tackle that broke the leg of Thomas Guebert in November (Zouma will be able to play again at the end of January).
He would also fill a position of need at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea needing to develop a young centre back to take over from the ageing John Terry, and Zouma, with his size, skill on the ball and excellent heading ability would be an ideal long-term replacement for the Chelsea captain – as well as pushing David Luiz and Gary Cahill for playing time.
