The Oscars were announced on Thursday and Leonardo DiCaprio followed up his Golden Globe win last weekend by securing an Oscar nomination for his role in The Wolf of Wall Street. As if his day couldn’t get any better, DiCaprio won Best Actor in a Comedy at the Critics Choice Awards Thursday evening.
Many people may be writing off his performance due to the content of the film, but DiCaprio has now officially become the frontrunner to win the Oscar thanks to racking up two straight wins for The Wolf of Wall Street. He’s beaten out supposed favorite Christian Bale twice now and that bodes well for his chances to beat Bale again in the Oscars.
A lot can happen between now and then, but as it stands now, DiCaprio has two major awards under his belt, and if he adds a SAG award this weekend, it’s going to be hard to see him not being the favorite for the Oscar.
